The Entourage Effect - that's how unique the hemp plant is

The Entourage Effect explained

Hemp is a nearly perfect creation that works like a well-oiled machine.

It is one of the most versatile plants in the whole world. It is a natural source of healthy ingredients that humans can benefit from, but it can also benefit the planet. It can do so by cleaning the soil it grows on and providing fibre that can then be used to create eco-friendly alternatives to highly polluting products.

Managing various processes

Cannabinoids are some of the most impactful ingredients found in hemp. They are chemical compounds produced naturally in the plant. What's so special about them is that they can interact with endocannabinoid receptors spread throughout the entire human body. These interactions help manage and balance various processes in our bodies.

There are over 100 cannabinoids, and each of them, including the minor ones like CBN or CBC, may impact how you feel.

Scientists focusing on how to achieve the best results from using cannabinoids have discovered something interesting. They have found out that cannabinoids work best when applied together, and not when we apply them in isolation. It means that all the different cannabinoids and other chemical compounds found in cannabis will have the greatest effect when working together. And that's what we call the "entourage effect".

Please note!

Currently, studies about this topic(s) are not representative. Fundamental statements about improvements of problems and/or conditions, therefore, can't be done.

Today's post will explain what it means and why it matters, using terpenes as an example.

Understanding hemp - the terpenes

Terpenes are what makes nature smell so good. While terpenes are present vastly in hemp, they can also be found everywhere around you.

The lemons, oranges, apples, and strawberries in your kitchen will all have terpenes to thank for their enticing smell. But, interestingly, these smells were not designed purely for our pleasure but to encourage pollination and scare away potential predators.

So can terpenes do anything else than provide us with enjoyable aromatherapy? Well, yes, in fact, they can!

Terpenes & cannabinoids: that's what we call teamwork

Terpenes are so much more than a source of different fragrances. They play the second most prominent role in the entourage effect, right after cannabinoids!

Early research suggests that terpenes are capable of improving how cannabinoids interact with your body when digested together. Some of the most prevalent terpenes found in hemp are Alpha-pinene (also responsible for making your Christmas tree smell so festive) and Limonene (also found in citrus fruit).

While both smell great, Alpha-pine is believed to protect your memory, as well as present potential antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. On the other hand, Limonene not only amplifies the potential benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids but might even express good feeling properties.

The actual Entourage Effect

The entourage effect is mother nature at its best. It assures us that if we apply various cannabinoids and terpenes together, just as mother nature intended, we will get rewarded.

Full-spectrum CBD oil

High-quality full-spectrum CBD oils are designed with the entourage effect in mind. They include many cannabinoids and terpenes, but always in the amounts legally allowed in the country of sale.

That is not to say CBD isolates (CBD in its purest form) are not the right choice for you or that they won't work. Instead, it just means that they might work better when applied accompanied by other chemical compounds found in hemp.

The advantages of the entourage effect

By taking advantage of the entourage effect, you are letting hemp perform to its best abilities.

Here at HERBLIZ, we believe that in most cases, nature gets it right. There is a reason why people have turned to hemp and marijuana for thousands of years, and why we keep coming back to it. The combination of various cannabinoids and terpenes is not accidental nor random. They are all there to play a specific role, as well as help each other perform to the best they can.

By choosing full-spectrum CBD products, you might make it easier for your body to fully utilise the CBD and let it complete the task you want it to fulfil.

You are also lowering the chances of any unpleasant side effects, as some terpenes are known to prevent side effects of various cannabinoids.

This makes full-spectrum cannabis products an obvious choice for people who reach out for CBD to find support in all aspects of nature.

What about CBD oil & terpenes for animals?

We love CBD oils, and we love our pets. So why shouldn't our pets reap the benefits of CBD when they're in pain or feeling anxious?

In theory, it might seem like a good idea to share your favourite supplement with your pet. In practice, though, you may cause more harm than good.

If you want your pet to take advantage of CBD, talk to your vet first, as there is scientific evidence that some terpenes might be toxic for animals, especially cats.

Room for growth - the science of the entourage effect

More scientific research needs to be done to gain a complete understanding of how hemp, specifically cannabinoids and terpenes, work.

We are still playing catch-up. Due to cannabis prohibition, all cannabis research stopped for a while. As a result, most of what we know today is based on early research, as well as on a vast amount of anecdotal evidence.

Even during prohibition, people kept on using and consuming cannabis. The remarkable results were often the reasons for policy change and the liberalisation of CBD supplements, as well as medical cannabis laws. But scientifically speaking, this is not enough, and more research is needed to confirm all these claims.

All-natural medicine of the future?

We are really looking forward to seeing what else hemp can do and how it can further benefit our lives.

Scientists discover new things every day, but we are still far from knowing everything about this beautiful and complex plant. We now have biochemists, medical doctors and historians focusing solely on cannabis and cannabis-derived ingredients.

In countries where cannabis is legal, such as Canada and parts of the US, Universities are adding Cannabis Bachelors and Master degrees to their curriculum.

Please inform yourself!

Please make sure that the country you are in has legalized CBD whenever you want to buy a Cannabidiol product. Laws around the world are different and also changing frequently.

These people will make a difference in the future. They can see the healing potential of cannabis is enormous, and they are willing to dedicate their entire careers to learning more about it.

But until they do, all we can do is trust in what our bodies tell us.
