These yellow, star-shaped beauties grow on plants called Cananga Odorata. Ylang-ylang has been used for centuries as an extract and for pastes. It is native in countries around the Indian Ocean, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia.

One of the many precious and unique qualities of the ylang-ylang flower is the mesmerising scent it produces. Best described as rich, flowery and fruity, ylang-ylang is often used in perfume - it's so pleasant it's the top note in the famous perfume - Chanel number 5!

Additionally, soaps, bath bombs and creams are also made with ylang-ylang, giving them a powerful and natural fragrance. And if you have ever looked into aromatherapy, you might also know that ylang-ylang essential oils are one of the core aromas used in various blends.

Ylang-ylang can even be added to beverages, especially ones that are supposed to make consumers feel refreshed and energised.

Ylang-Ylang explained

There is more to ylang-ylang than just its pleasant aroma.

Some anecdotal evidence, as well as the historical use of the flower, point out that people exposed to ylang-ylang might find it easier to relax and feel calm. It has also been used to support people's thinking skills and help lower blood pressure. For these reasons, ylang-ylang is currently being examined to see if future medical applications, especially blood lowering therapies, are worth looking into any further.
